Day 3 - Schönbrunn Palace Tour
Schönbrunn is some distance away from the centre. Bäckerei Café Felzl is on the way; we'll have some breakfast there first and then take transit to the palace.
Your pass includes the Grand Tour of the palace with an audio guide, as well as access to the Privy Garden, the maze and labyrinth, the Orangery Garden, and the viewing terrace of the Gloriette. The palace tour will take you through the private and state apartments of the Emporer Franz Joseph and Empress Elizabeth and Maria Theresa. The tour takes about 60 minutes and will need to start at the time on your ticket. The maze and the rest of the gardens can be enjoyed at your own pace.
A visit of 3-4 hours is suggested to take everything in. You are free to hurry or linger, as you wish! Directions for getting back to our neighbourhood or back to Vienna's centre are below.
When you're ready to leave:
There are two exits from the gardens that are close to Ubahn stops on the U4 (green) line. In the northwest corner, you can leave via Angel's gate and walk to Hietzing in a few minutes. If you're closer to the northeast corner, you'll find Meidling Gate; the Schönbrunn stop is not far north from there.
If you're ready for a rest, you can take the U4 towards Schottenring (eastbound) to Kettenbrückengasse. Then you'll have about a 10-minute walk to our neighbourhood.
If you'd like to spend some more time exploring in the centre, take the U4 further in the same direction and get off at Stadtpark or one stop further at Wien Mitte-Landstraße. This is where we arrived when we came from the airport!
